This stunning gown is well documented and was featured in an ad that I have included here, for that same year. It bears the Dior Patron Original Haute Couture  label, numbered 30237, and is beautiful. The Patron Original label was used for two purposes - it would indicate a gown custom made for a client that was not always exactly to the version presented on the runway or was one entirely made for the individual altogether on a collaborative effort between client and designer or, in some cases, especially for earlier pieces it was the equivalent of a "sample" that was made by the atelier and sent to licensed ateliers that made dresses for their individual markets under the strict supervision and approval of the house. This was a way to get around the strict customs controls of earlier time periods, a practice began and initiated by the house of Dior. In either case pieces bearing this label are considered to be Haute Couture.

I love the instant impact of that rich golden silk and the simple, but elegant cut. The fabric that Marc Bohan chose for this dress is amazing. It is a rich, heavy silk with a layer of silk velvet fused onto the silk. This velvet detailing runs down the front of the skirt to give the fabric an extra layer of depth and texture. The bodice has a high scooped neck and is cut to sit loose and easy on the body as it narrows into the waist. Inside, there is an inner waist corset that hold the dress in place and adds shape. The waist is further accented by a pretty silk organza sash that you can wrap and tie as you wish. The skirt is gathers into the waist with a series of soft pleats and this creates a pretty voluminous effect. Inside there is a panel of the same fabric that is finished in a horsehair band that helps to create the shape and fullness you see. The skirt is cut to softly curve in at the hem, again emphasizing that stunning curve of the skirt. It is entirely hand finished and has all the lovely high end details one looks for in proper couture. Excellent condition

Fully interlined in a hand set yellow silk organza and closes with a back painted metal zipper. Hand finished throughout. There is a small darkening on the edge of the hem (see photo provided) but other wise I see no flaws. Inner waist corset stay the hooks to close. Haute Couture Patron Original label number 30237. Note that in person the color is slightly deeper then how it photoed but not as deep as the ad photo. It is even better in person.
